Our Members

Members of the Fédération des Tonneliers de France range from small businesses to companies that are listed on the stock market. The majority are small- and medium-sized businesses and many are family-owned.

One-third of cooperages have about five employees and 50% have an average of 25 employees. A few of our member companies employ 150 people and one mid-sized member company has 300 employees.

The cooperage industry has sales of roughly 589 million euros, for production in excess of 687,000 barrels a year destinated to wines and spirits. One-third of production is sold in France. On average, the French cooperage industry exports 65% of production. From Chile to China and from South Africa to New Zealand, producers of high-quality wine all around the world overwhelmingly favor maturing wine in barrels made in France. Our leading export markets are the United States, Spain, Australia, and Italy.

As the only sector in the French timber industry with a surplus trade balance, the cooperage trade has a prominent role in the wine-producing industry internationally and asserts its place as a world leader.
